About:

JSL Henning [Julia] is a freelance consultant, writer and researcher who draws on her foundations in both art and science to translate scientific and technical information into accessible, engaging content that educates and empowers individuals, organisations, informs decision-making, and drives change.

Passionate about making scientific knowledge accessible through effective communication, Julia regularly contributes as a science writer and expert across international broadcast, digital, and print media. Her publications have been translated into multiple languages and viewed over 2 million times.

Julia holds a PhD in Veterinary Science and has a special interest in human and animal wellbeing and welfare. Her recent work has focused on human-cat play interactions, advancing our understanding of feline behaviour, emotions and communication, and highlighting the importance of considering the influence of human perceptions on animal welfare
outcomes.

Beyond research, Julia is an established multidisciplinary artist, working across creative writing, photography/film, and music composition. As a musician, Julia has toured nationally, including sold out shows at the Sydney Opera House. Her award-winning compositions have featured in documentaries, short films, TV, and video games. Praised for her emotive lyrics, Julia has gradually shifted her craft towards poetry and longer-form creative writing. She is currently enjoying honing her skills and looks forward to publishing more creative endeavours in the not too distant future.
